2007 Vacation
- Day One -
On to Fallon and Vicinity

One of the better ideas I ever had was to
take vacations using rental cars.
Put all the miles on them
and extend the life of your own vehicle.
It looks like I have all the necessary essentials and it's time to hit
the road. A whole lot of driving to do.

One of my favorite intersections, traveling to Fallon.

First stop is Grimes Point, a bit south of Fallon to have
a look at some petroglyphs.

Naturally, the site is up hill.

A number of these boulders had some rather strange pits
and grooves.
Why would someone do this? Has to be sheer boredom.

Yup, sheer boredom.

This rock illustrates the differences in thinking between the sexes.
What we have here is a pit on the upper
right followed by a groove which extends down to the lower left.
What do I think it is?
Why it's a blood groove for when the indians drain the blood from their
kills .
What does she think it is?
For
one of those rare instances when it does rain, the kids can see a
waterfall.

Most of these glyphs were pretty faded. I was able to enhance
a few of them. This one looks kind of like a bird.

Where
is Ritalin when you need it.

I didn't have much trouble interpreting this one.

The Grimes Point parking lot looking west. Time to journey on.
Lots of driving to do.

Leaving Fallon, there are other examples of American art.
I think this came along a bit later.

Things to do in the great Northwest when you are really bored.

If playing with black rocks and white desert is not your
style, why not pay a visit to the Shoe Tree,
a bit east of Fallon and test your shoe throwing skills.

Got to be thousands of shoes here.
On the east coast they have a 'Bike Tree':

Time
to hit the road again and travel east on the loneliest road in America.
